[Dine out in London] Lass O’ Richmond Hill



Before we went into Richmond park, I spotted an old English pub just round the corner so rather than having prepacked cold sandwiches in the park cafe, I decided we better to have some nice hot food first.  So we went into this Lass O'Richmond Hill.   Not disappointed at all,  the food was so delicious.  Mr Chen had his fav lamb shoulder dish, and I had my fav fish and chips.   We seated in their outdoor area.  Though a bit cold but we are well covered by the sun, we had a very lovely lunch.   Definitely it is a place we will go back there again.  Two main courses, 2 drinks, the bill was only £34.  Very nice.

[Dine out in London] Wimpy in Southend On Sea



 

I love Wimpy!!!   Obviously their burgers are not the best, but I like their cosy restaurant and may be because Wimpy was one of the first place my parents bought me burgers and fish and chips when I first arrived in Glasgow nearly 20 years ago.  Full of memories!!!!

We went to Southend on Sea during the weekend again, by the time we parked the car, and walked to Wimpy, it started to rain.  When we finished dinner, the rain stopped.   What a perfect day and a beautiful sunset!!!

We ordered Mega burger (the one with sausage), BBQ open burger, Mango sundae, a tea and a coke, the bill came to £17.  Cheap and satisfied!!! :-)

腐竹燜鱸魚


[Recipe] 椒鹽豆腐 / Salt and pepper tofu


This is not deep fried, so less oil is used.  My way of doing it is...
  1. bash some sichuan peppercon and rock salts in a mortar and pestle.
  2. Mix the seasonings with some flour, and dust it all over the tofu.
  3. Use a non stick pan, put in ~2tbsp of oil, in a high - med heat, fry each side of the tofu for 2 mins or until golden brown.  Enjoy~~~

Cheese scones


[recipe] Sultana scone


I have made scones many many times.  This is my simple way of doing it, by twisting around different recipes I found on the Internet.   Before staring, I strongly recommend people to read "Delia's website" of how to make scones.   It is a really good reference.
 
Makes 8
 
Ingredients:
  • 225g self raising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 75g butter
  • 20g caster sugar
  • 30g sultana
  • 6 tbsp milk
Method:
  1. measure flour then sieve it to a big bowl, add in a pinch of salt, set aside
  2. measure sugar, set aside
  3. measure sultana, (if they are dried, soak them in hot water), set aside
  4. beat an egg, add in 6 tbsp of milk, set aside; 
  5. grease the baking tray with butter, dust with flour
  6. preheat oven to 200C
  7. measure butter, cut into small cubes;  rub the butter into flour until they look like breadcrumbs
  8. add sugar and mix in
  9. add in the egg mixture a little bit at a time, mix in with a knife, until it starts to form a dough(you might not need to use all the egg mixture)
  10. add in sultana, use your hand and work it into a dough
  11. roll the dough to around 1" thick, cut into circle shapes
  12. place the scones to the baking tray, brush with egg mixture and sprinkle over with a little flour
  13. bake for 10 mins

聼說這裏有全倫敦最好吃嘅燒鴨,結果是又多一個失望.
我吔四個人, 八點半到, 等半個鐘頭位, 入面多人到飛起,地方超窄, 同隔離台零矩離, 等到想走個時旁邊啲人話呢間係全條街最好食架啦, 吾係fa, 好啦最後等到九點, 叫咗琵琶豆腐, 炸蠔, 椒鹽魷魚, 梅菜扣肉, 一隻燒鴨, 埋單£79.

隻鴨係甜架, 甜燒鴨, 係咪咁叫好味?? 我估我唔識食囉. 其他菜普通普通啦,又係嗰句, 抵食個鬼佬菜囉!!

蝦肉老少平安 / Steamed Tofu with prawns & egg


細個時候經常都會吃老少平安, 一直都很想自己做, 但呢喥那有鯪魚肉買呢, 所以我用蝦代魚肉, 食譜是跟江獻珠«蒸煮»裏面嘅家常太史豆腐學的, 好清, 好鮮, 好好味!!

蠔油菜心


一星期買一次中國菜, 今次餐!!

[Recipe] 羗葱蒸石班 / Steamed garoupa with spring onions and ginger


响英國有時都買到又平又好味嘅餸, 好似呢條石班, 只係£6, 足夠至三人吃, 如果係香港, 我一定買唔到, 一定被君.

Here is my way of how to steam fish:

1. Use a knife to remove the fish scales (coz the fishmonger always won't do it thoroughly)
2. Wash the fish and let it drain dry
3. Use a big wok, put in boiling water, lid on and wait till it boils again.
4. Meanwhile, prepare sliced ginger and spring onions.
5. Put a few spring onions to the dish, then the fish, and sprinkle the fish with a pinch of salt
6. When the water boils again, put in the fish and let it steams around 10 minutes (depends on the size of the fish).  And always check to see if the fish is thoroughly cook with a fork, stick it to the middle of the fish and to see if the fish meat falls off from the bones, if yes then it is cooked.  Never mind it will ruin the presentation because you can always cover it with the spring onions and ginger toppings :-)
7.  While u know there's still 2 or 3 minutes the fish will be cooked, use a small frying pan (or a milk pan would be perfect), put in 3 to 4 tbsp of oil, when the oil is hot enough, put in the ginger and spring onions, give it a bit of stir and cook for 1 minute, till u see they are sizzling.
8. When the fish is ready, you might notice there are lots of "juices" on the plate, so you might want to pour them away before topping the fish with the oil + spring onions + ginger dressing, finally add in 2 to 3 tbsp of soy sauce.  done !!!

自家種韭菜->韭菜豬肉包子





係我最愛嘅韭菜呀~~~~~~

這些是今個夏天第一次收成, 我想可能仲可以收多一次, 今年就係咁啦!!
呢到收咗幾條, 只夠做兩個韭菜豬肉包子, 好過冇啦!!

呢邊買韭菜好貴呢!! 一包£3 or £4, 香港可能賣$3 or $4, 所以包餃子嘅話我好多時都買鬼佬嘅leeks, 都好好味的!

Welsh lamb chop, peas & potato mash, fried onions and peppers


Noticed Waitrose doing special discount on Welsh lamb chop, so I gave it a try.
It tastes really nice, less fatty, but the meat is very tender, even though i overcooked it a bit unintentionally :-p

The big greenish thing on the plate is peas and potato mash.  It was my first try, luckily Mr Chen likes it.  haha

The black bits are roasted peppers, cooked under the grill along with the ribs and squid in my previous post :-p

They are cooked under the grill, seasoned with "sichuan" peppercorn and salts, yum!!!

Rye bread


Here is my usual bread loaf again.  This time I used half white bread flour and half rye bread flour, added 3 tbsp of oats, a very healthy bread :-)

星洲炒米


As the pic telling u, I didn't put in any roast pork.  That's why it looks weird and plain :-S
I only put in prawns, bean sprouts, yellow peppers, red chillies, shallots, garlic, ginger and curry powder.  I did prepared some spring onions but I totally forgot about it.

Never mind, will do it again.

Not bad, taste like Soy Sauce chicken wings haha!!  I guess I need to put in more cooking wine next time.
